Operations Management

The Operations Management area focuses on the study, analysis and implementation of systems suitable for operation across industrial and service generation activities. Processes in these operations are studied to determine how they can be executed in a sustainable manner, which include aspects of Quality Management and Evaluation as well as Environmental Management. The area further investigates the development of all manufacturing actions, the production planning and control, the economic management and the mechanisms for involving human resources in an effort to achieve increasing levels of quality and productivity. This area is particularly concerned with the rational use of resources to achieve objectives and goals that make the organization competitive, sustainable and able to produce tangible goods/services adapted to the markets they serve and the society they operate within.This area of concentration is divided into four lines of research:

(i) Production management;

(ii) Quality management and environmental management;

(iii) Economic management; and

(iv) Organizational intelligence.
